Morsels of comfort food help create a popular spot in Phoebus
A lot of people aren’t aware of Phoebus, the quaint, historical district in Hampton. If you drive through town, you'll feel as if you've gone back in time. The pretty tree-lined streets and storefronts within old brick buildings that haven't changed in ages will grab you and make you slow down to take it all in.

Lynnhaven Pub is a craft beer mecca

Every city has a hidden gem, tucked away off the main thoroughfare. It’s the kind of spot you want to know about but won't until someone lets you in on the secret.
Lynnhaven Pub in Virginia Beach is that sort of place. Tucked away off West Great Neck Road in a small commercial center, the unassuming corner shop has one of the area’s best beer selections. If you're hungry, you'll be able to order some of the best brisket in the city.

Restaurant review: At Tubby's Tavern, it's family, arts and crafts

Rodney and Rebekah Jones opened Tubby’s Tavern as a place where people could meet, have a great meal and get good regional craft beers. The tavern welcomes families with children while still having a full service bar.

Tubby's Tavern opened last September, the same month Rodney and Rebekah's daughter, Emeline, was born. They had to move the grand opening of Tubby's back a couple of days because she arrived on the same day they were going to open the doors.

Brewpub wineshop to open near Oceanfront

Home Republic

A brewpub/wineshop is to open in May on Laskin Road, not far from the Virginia Beach oceanfront.

Owner Joe Curtis, of Norfolk, and his fiancée Barbara McElroy, of Portsmouth, hope to open Home Republic by the end of May.

“We want to attract people who love good beer and wine,’’ Curtis said.

Virginia beers will be showcased at the restaurant, but other beers will also be available.

Curtis and McElroy said the food would be elevated American cuisine, with an emphasis on grilled food with regional influences.

O'Connor Brewing | Getting ready for new digs

O'Connor Growler

NORFOLK – O’Connor Brewing Co., a centerpiece of the growing local beer scene, is poised to expand in the coming months by opening a larger brewery and taproom. It’s a big step for the local brewery, which has increased its business since
brewing its first batch on St. Patrick’s Day just four years ago.

The new facility will be at 211 W. 24th St., not far from the current site.

The existing one is still hopping, by the way.

Norfolk officials hope to land Stone Brewing Co.

Stone Brewing Company

Norfolk has thrown its hat into the ring of cities hoping to land Stone Brewing Co.’s second brewery.

The Escondido, Calif.-based company has asked cities east of the Mississippi River to make a case for why Stone should expand there.

Fire & Vine offers decent selection of local brews

While I was in the Hilltop area recently, I decided to find a place to grab a bite to eat and maybe a pint. I had heard that Fire & Vine Woodfire Cuisine had a decent lineup of local and regional beers, so I headed over. After I parked, I walked up to the restaurant and passed a fancy patio heater holding a tall column of blue-rooted orange flame. It was fitting, considering the name of the place and the cold weather.
