Lonerider Brewing Company is expanding distribution to Eastern Virginia starting March 3.

Lonerider's signature beers, including Shotgun Betty Hefeweizen, Sweet Josie Brown Ale, Peacemaker Pale Ale and their Outlawed seasonal beers, will be available at select bars and grocery stores.

Here's how Lonerider describes its beers:

Shotgun Betty is a German-style hefeweizen featuring a rich, banana-clove nose and refreshing dry finish. 5.8% ABV.

Hampton Roads gets an influx of Trout

SweetWater Brewing Company

SweetWater Brewing Company – an Atlanta-based craft brewery ranked in the top 25 in the nation according to the Brewers Association – is making its way to Hampton Roads the week of Feb. 10. Virginia is the ninth state for SweetWater.

SweetWater is bringing their brews on draft at bars and restaurants, alongside six-packs and 12-bottle variety packs in off-premise, grocery and specialty bottle stores. Styles include:

College of the Albemarle offers brewing courses

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - The College of the Albemarle is offering classes in beer brewing with plans to bring in experts from local companies.

The community college will be the first to offer such instruction in eastern North Carolina, said Karen Gilbert, director of continuing education and workforce development.

"We felt this region was primed for something like this," Gilbert said.

There’s always work at a small business. Make that a family business – a busy brewery, at that. Long days can seem to run together.

“Today’s Tuesday,” William Spence Jr., orienting a recent visitor to St. George Brewing Co. “Oh, great – I get tacos.”

The microbrewery at 204 Challenger Way in Hampton has a retail shop, tastings, tours, and events. Customers and friends of the brewery gather at indoor picnic tables to share pints and pitchers – and savor the work of a Stuft food truck.

It’s a “thirsty” taco Tuesday.
